World-class architectural design
2-story penthouse in Ritz-Carlton San Francisco
Imagine living in a luxury hotel amid a major metropolitan with every whim catered to, every indulgence accounted for and every finish deftly tailored.
That’s going to be the life for whoever is next to live on the 24th floor of the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco.
“This showcases the ultimate in world-class architectural design, smart home technology, and 180-degree views of San Francisco from sunrise to sunset,” said Gregg Lynn of Sotheby’s International Realty, who is listing the penthouse for $5.95 million.
Custom built-ins abound within the two-story penthouse. The residence offers built-in furniture, including a couch in the living room and seating at the end of the kitchen island. The guest bedroom includes a custom-built bed and a wood-paneled wall with vibrantly colored shelving.
The penthouse is broken into a pair of living areas running parallel to the wall of windows. Walnut paneling and banquettes upholstered in mohair accent the entryway and guest bedroom.
New York’s Joel Sanders Architects collaborated with Winder Gibson Architects on the two-year remodeling project. The team crafted a recessed linear slot nicknamed the “sky zone” that wraps around the perimeter of the penthouse. Painted sky blue, the indentation complements double-hung windows looking out diagonally at the cityscape.
Two rows of windows rest beneath a double-height ceiling in the living/media room that’s adjacent to the kitchen. A palette of concrete, fritted glass and powder-coated steel lends contrast and visual intrigue to the refined interior.
Atop a hardwood staircase waits a landing area highlighted by a walnut-paneled curvilinear wall. The laundry area and mechanical room discreetly wait behind the seductive detail. Decadent design defines the owner’s suite. In addition to a wet bar, sitting area and abundant built-in storage, the suite hosts a spa bathroom with lava stone flooring, a freestanding soaking tub and a shower with a pair of windows framing city vistas.
High-tech innovations are folded into the suite. Most notably, the glass wall separating the bathroom and sleeping quarters transitions from clear to frosted at the push of a button.
Living in the Ritz-Carlton equals access to the hotel’s abundant accommodations, including a 24-hour doorman, valet parking, fitness center and spa. There’s also a lounge on the 12th floor with a terrace overlooking Market Street and a concierge dedicated solely to residents.
