Anthony Sloan, born in Santa Barbara on Feb 25th,1979 passed away unexpected­ly at his home in San Francisco on March 8th at the age of 39, after battling complicati­ons from a head injury sustained on July 15th, 2017.

He is survived by his wife Amanda Marie Reyes, their son Teo Reyes Sloan, his parents Adrienne Angela Mathewson and Alvin Sloan III, his sister Jessica Carranza, his half-siblings Jwanika Jones, D’Angelo Sloan, Aleda Sloan, and Aryhauna Sloan.

Anthony, otherwise known as “Coach Ant” or “Mr Ant” by his students, spent the majority of his profession­al career working in education and community organizing, most recently at Alvarado Elementary, GLO at Alvarado and SF Rec & Park, as a coach and sports coordinato­r. He founded Hoods to the Woods and championed the Tenderloin Community School skate club and the San Francisco Skate Club.

Anthony was an avid skateboard­er and cyclist, a ravenous reader and writer, he had an appreciati­on for jazz and loved to paint and draw. Anthony had an irrefutabl­e ability to bring people together, with his unmistakab­le smile, his warm charisma and his overwhelmi­ng compassion for his community. He will be dearly missed.
