Embiid has surgery to fix orbital fracture

-

Philadelphia 76ers All-Star center Joel Embiid had surgery Saturday to repair a broken bone around his left eye.

The team says there is no timetable for Embiid’s return. He is scheduled to have a post-operative examination in the next few days, and further updates will be provided then.

Embiid was injured when 76ers guard Markelle Fultz accidentally head-butted him while diving toward the basket Wednesday in a game against the New York Knicks. Embiid immediately went to the floor and remained there

for several minutes before he was helped off the court.

Embiid also suffered a concussion and remains in the NBA’s concussion program.

The Sixers clearly need their big man if they’re going to make a run in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Embiid leads the team at 22.9 points and 11 rebounds per game, helping Philadelphia clinch its first playoff berth since 2012.

Ingram sidelined: Lakers swingman Brandon Ingram has been placed in the NBA’s concussion protocol.

The Lakers announced the

decision Saturday after Ingram was re-evaluated for an injury incurred Friday night.

Ingram played 27 minutes in the Lakers’ overtime loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, but appeared to get hurt on a foul late in the fourth quarter. He played briefly in overtime before leaving with what was initially described as a bruised neck muscle.

Ingram had played in only two games since returning from a groin strain that sidelined him for 12 games.

Ingram is the Lakers’ second-leading scorer at 16.1 points per game in his second

NBA season.
