Syria fatality: The American service member killed last week by a roadside bomb in northern Syria was a 36-year-old Army soldier from Texas, the Defense Department said. Master Sgt. Jonathan Dunbar of Austin died Friday as a result of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his patrol in Manbij during an operation against the Islamic State group, officials said. A British armed forces member also was killed and five other people were wounded in Thursday’s bombing. Dunbar was assigned to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command in Fort Bragg, N.C.

Data breach: The personal information of customers who shopped at Saks Fifth Avenue, Saks Off Fifth and Lord & Taylor has been compromised. The chains’ parent company, Hudson’s Bay Co., announced the breach Sunday. The company said it is investigating and taking steps to contain the attack. Security firm Gemini Advisory LLC said a hacking group called JokerStash announced last week that it had put up for sale more than 5 million stolen credit and debit cards, and that the records came from customers of Saks and Lord & Taylor, both headquartered in New York City. Hudson’s Bay said customers won’t be liable for fraudulent charges, and it plans to offer free identity protection services.

Parents stabbed: Investigators say a Southern California man stabbed his parents after a fight, killing his mother and critically wounding his father. Orange County sheriff ’s deputies said they responded to calls about a man with a knife outside a home in San Juan Capistrano late Friday. When they arrived, they found the two victims bleeding from stab wounds. Their son, 30year-old Yihong Peng, ran from deputies but was arrested after a short foot chase. His mother, 59-year-old Wei Ping Shen, died at the scene. His father was taken to the hospital with critical wounds but is expected to survive. Peng is due for a court appearance Monday.

Shark attack: A man was seriously hurt in a shark attack in Hawaii, prompting authorities to close part of a beach on the Big Island. Dan Dennison of the State Department of Land and Natural Resources said the incident happened Saturday at Kukio Beach near Hualalai. The 25-year-old man was airlifted to a hospital with multiple injuries to his hand and leg. Under standard procedure, Dennison said beach closure signs warning visitors were displayed for a mile on either side of the incident for the rest of the day.

King march: A group of teenagers has begun a 50-mile walk from northern Mississippi to Memphis in a tribute to slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. for the 50th anniversary of his assassination. Six middle school, high school and college students, along with two adult mentors, began their march Saturday in rural Dundee. The decision to walk 50 miles was deliberate — the distance represents one mile for each year since King was gunned down while standing on the balcony of the old Lorraine Motel in Memphis on April 4, 1968.
