The catch of the day is the HBO screening of “King in the Wilderness,” a fascinating documentary looking at the last 18 months in the life of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., who was assassinated on April 4, 1968. The film details the despair that King felt in that last year as his position on nonviolence was challenged by younger black men like Stokely Carmichael, and how some of his followers turned against him when he announced his opposition to the Vietnam War. The film airs at 8 p.m. The Paramount Network honors King with “I Am MLK Jr.,” a documentary about his life and legacy, produced by filmmaker Derik Murray, airing at 8 p.m. “Antiques Roadshow” visits Portlandia on KQED at 8 p.m. Penn & Teller star in a “Fool Us Once” special a day after April Fool’s Day with “Fool Us: April Fool Us Day” at 8 p.m. on the CW. ABC premieres “The Crossing,” a sci-fi drama which may have possibilities, but with only a single episode to work from, I can’t really be more conclusive than that. Steve Zahn stars as a smalltown sheriff who suddenly has to deal with secret government operatives who invade his town after hundreds of bodies wash up on the shore — but some of them are still alive. They are survivors of a war, but set in the future. The show airs at 10 p.m. Sam Neill stars in “Reilly, Ace of Spies,” a 1983 miniseries in which he plays Sidney Reilly ,a Russian Jew who became an exceptional spy working for the British. Acorn TV releases 12 episodes of the series today, with guest stars David Suchet, Lindsay Duncan, Alfred Molina and Hugh Fraser. Also among Acorn’s offerings is the first of six episodes of the second season of the U.S. premiere of “The Good Karma Hospital,” set in a small coastal town in tropical India with Amrita Acharia and Amanda Redman. The fifth series of the 1990s sitcom “Goodnight, Sweetheart” is available on Acorn today. Nicholas Lyndhurst stars as an accidental time traveler.
