HOW TO GET THERE

GPS: Use 20022 Castle Creek Road, Castella From the Bay Area: Take I-5 north to Redding and continue 46 miles to Exit 724 for Castella (signed in advance for Castle Crags State Park). Take that exit 0.2 of a mile to stop sign at Castle Creek Road. Turn left and drive 0.3 of a mile (a store/deli/gas station is on the left) to the park entrance road (well signed) on the right, to park kiosk. To main campground­s: After paying the entrance fee, continue ahead a short distance, then bear right on main road and drive 0.5 of a mile to campground­s (sites located on three separate loops). To Vista Point/trailhead parking: From campground­s (no RVs or trailers allowed past campground­s), continue ahead, make a very sharp left turn and continue (the roads narrows, so drive slowly) for 0.2 of a mile to parking and restroom on right. Trailhead for Vista Point is directly ahead. The trailhead for Root Creek Trail (with nearby junctions for Crags Trail and Pacific Crest Trail) is a short ways down the road, across from the restroom. To Burstarse Creek/Falls Trailhead: From the state park entrance, drive west on Castle Creek Road for 2.7 miles to the dirt parking area on the right for Dog Trail and signed for a spur to PCT. To walk-in campsites: From I-5, take Exit 724 (signed for Castella) 0.2 of a mile to stop sign. Continue ahead on frontage road for 0.2 of a mile to Riverside Road on right. Turn right, drive over bridge, and continue 0.2 of a mile north to access point for walk-in campground­s on left. Distances: 1 mile from Castella, 6 miles from Dunsmuir, 47 miles from Redding, 207 miles from Sacramento, 209 miles from Vacaville, 242 miles from Concord, 258 miles from San Rafael, 262 miles from San Francisco, 294 miles from San Jose.
