2018 Sauvignon Blanc Experience, May 4-5. The first day is an International Sauvignon Blanc Symposium for industry participants, but the second is a Grand Tasting that’s open to the public. Includes opportunities to meet winemakers and participate in food-wine pairings. This annual celebration of winged wildlife will be held on two weekends: the last weekend in April at Lakeside County Park, Kelseyville; and the first weekend in May at Clear Lake Campground, Clearlake. Each day consists of 90-minute tours leaving from 8 to 11 a.m. with Audubon docents to learn about (and spot) herons, egrets, osprey and cormorants, among others. Admission: $30 per person. How about more than 25 Lake County wineries, all for one inclusive, reasonable tasting fee? You can do that with the Lake County Wine Adventure, being held at top destinations all across the region. More than just a chance to taste the good grapes, the weekend is a traveling party, as wineries offer special labels and vintages for sampling, small-bite food pairings, and at some places, live entertainment. Clearlake Oaks-Glenhaven Catfish Derby, May 18-20. This annual event is the largest catfish derby west of the Mississippi River and attracts thousands of anglers and fans. The top prize is $4,000. Fishing starts at noon on May 18 and ends at noon on May 20. Registration and check-in begins on May 17 at the Clearlake Oaks fire station, 12655 E. Highway 20, Clearlake Oaks.
