January 8, 1921 – March 30, 2018

-

Passed peacefully this month, well-cared for at the Vets Community Living Center in San Francisco at the age of 97.

Nick started life in the Southern Italian town of Verbicaro, the son of father Vincenzo Errico and mother Maria Giuseppa Germano.

He lived and attended school in Italy until age 15, when he emigrated to the United States solo aboard the ship Conte Di Silva to join his father in San Francisco, who had previously emigrated. Nick’s sister, Vincenzina Marie, together with their mother, later emigrated to join them.

Nick soon after met and began dating Josephine Marie Laino. They were married at Saints Peter and Paul Church in San Francisco in 1941.

Son Mario Errico was born in 1942 while Nick was serving the wartime Navy. Son Gregory Errico was born six years later in 1948.

Nick worked for many years as a waiter in San Francisco’s top restaurants in North Beach and the Financial District.

Together with his sister Vincenzina, they also owned and operated a Geary Street restaurant for several years.

Nick and Jo attended several Catholic Churches, and enjoyed many Italian-American club activities.

After retiring, Nick and Jo moved into a home on San Francisco’s Dolores Street with an extensive garden, cultivated by Nick and utilized by Jo for many fabulous home-cooked meals and beautiful floral arrangements. Josephine passed away last March, 2017.

Nick and Josephine are survived by sons Mario and Greg, and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may attend a viewing at 2 pm on Monday, April 16th at the Italian Cemetery, located at 540 F Street in Colma, Ca. A Funeral Liturgy and Committal will commence thereafter at 2:30 pm.
