Wilma Jean Fleming

June 27, 1915 – March 28, 2018

Wilma Jean Fleming lived life fully all her 102 years. Her sparkle and generosity drew in not only her family but also everyone she encountered. She was born in Drumheller, Alberta, Canada, grew up in the western United States and British Columbia, and married Donald Fleming in Vancouver, B.C. There they shared many happy years together before moving to Sacramento, California, with their teenage family and starting a new business, Fleming Screen Print. In everything they were partners, sharing their work, raising their two children, Laurie and Randall, and playing golf and traveling in their retirement years. When Don passed away, Jean moved to Byron Park in Walnut Creek to be closer to family. In no time she developed new friendships, even forming a “Jeans’ Club” for residents named Jean. Always she was a treasured participant in the lives of her family.

On March 28, surrounded by the love of her children, their spouses, her four grandchildren and their spouses and five great grandchildren, Jean slipped softly away. She was 91 days short of her 103 birthday. She often used to say that the reason she lived so long was to make sure that her children and her grandchildren got a good start in life. She was a grand and cherished woman.

Besides her California family she leaves close relatives in British Columbia.

Friends are invited to a remembrance in her honor on April 22 in Orinda. Those interested in attending please respond to: grandmajean1915@gmail.com
