Mary Chris Prepouses
April 28, 1931 - April 6, 2018
Passed away peacefully at home in Danville, California, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death just two months earlier by her husband of 64 years, Nicholas.
Mary was born in San Francisco to Greek immigrants Tresevgeny (Kolliopoulos) and Christos Stephens. She grew up in South San Francisco, and graduated from San Francisco State College with a Business degree.
Mary was married to Nick in 1953, described by him as the best decision of his life. She was a true life partner, creating a wonderful home, helping him in his accounting practice, and most importantly, together raising their three daughters, Kathryn C. (KC), Barbara, and Vicki, guiding them in their educational endeavors and grounding them in their Greek Orthodox Christian faith.
Mary was a kind and loving figure to all who knew her. She hosted countless happy family holidays and celebrations through the years, all including her delicious cooking and welcoming hospitality, taking after her own mother in this regard.
Mary rejoiced at the weddings of her daughters and the arrival of her grandchildren. KC (Jim) Econome - Christine (Reid) Conklin and Andrea; Barbara (Mark) Fridell - Lauren (Ryland) Harris, Matthew and Luke; Vicki (Bob) Kiningham - Kevin, Heather and William. She treasured taking her grandchildren on special outings for their birthdays.
In Mary’s last year, she excitedly welcomed the arrival of great granddaughter Emma Marie, born to Christine and Reid last August, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing and holding her. Her last act was to smile at Emma before leaving us. And Mary was able to hear the news of the birth of her first great grandson, Finley Cole, born to Lauren and Ryland on March 26th. The legacy of wonderful mothering that she provided continues through the generations. It was a blessing that she lived to see two of her children’s children’s children.
Mary was a beloved sister to Pete (Barbara) Stephens, and sister-in-law to Pauline (Mike) Delegeane, and treasured aunt to Anthony and Loukas (Victoria) Stephens and Angelo (Maria), Vicki Marie and Terry (Donna) Delegeane. She had a dear friendship with her first cousin Tina (Bob), and provided devoted care to her mother-in-law Vasiliki for many years before Vasiliki’s passing.
Mary enjoyed the company of the women in her Sewing Club, and especially cherished the bond she and Nick shared with their beloved friends Marion and Don Alexander.
Mary was blessed with dedicated caregivers during her later years. Sylvia, Aida and Mary K. not only provided loving care, but true companionship.
Dr. Cynthia Mahoney provided Mary with excellent and innovative medical care, delivered with her kind bedside manner, and Mary received personal, attentive care at DaVita Dialysis in Pleasanton.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Trisagion Service on Tuesday, April 10th at 7 pm, and the Funeral Service on Wednesday April 11th at 11 am, both at the Resurrection Greek Orthodox church at 20104 Center St., Castro Valley.
