for all the men involved. “I think it’s fine news.”

—Heather Knight More power: The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has signed up another major customer for its electricity service that is free of greenhouse gases.

Digital Realty, a real estate company that acquires and manages energy-intensive data centers, has agreed to connect its 365 Main St. location on Rincon Hill to the SFPUC’s Hetch Hetchy Power program.

By making the switch to Hetch Hetchy Power, which generates electricity from hydrolectric, solar and bio-gas sources, Digital Realty will eliminate about 24 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions each year, according to the SFPUC. That’s the rough equivalent of 1,600 households.

More than 100 Digital Realty customers house their data centers at the company’s 365 Main Street location, its largest in San Francisco at nearly 227,000 square feet. The company has two other data centers, at 360 Spear St. and at 200 Paul Ave.

“This project builds on our steadfast commitment to lower our overall carbon footprint, transitioning this data center to a regionally sourced, zero greenhouse-gas emission power supply,” said Aaron Binkley, Digital Realty’s director of sustainability programs, in a statement.

The Hetch Hetchy Power system serves about 17 percent of San Francisco’s electricity demand and is used as the primary energy source for municipal facilities and Muni.
