Rays put ex-Giant Duffy on 10-day DL

-

The Rays put Matt Duffy on the 10-day disabled list because of a strained right hamstring.

The former Giants third baseman was hurt running the bases in Monday’s 8-4 win over Texas. He described the injury as a mild strain that will take five days to a week to heal.

Duffy missed last season because of Achilles tendon surgery and a heel injury.

The Rays purchased the contract of Brandon Snyder from Triple-A Durham. He went 0-for-4 in a 7-2 loss to Texas on Tuesday night. Rizzo’s return: Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo returned to the starting lineup after being sidelined by lower back tightness.

Rizzo was activated from the DL before Chicago’s series opener against St. Louis and went 0-for-3 with a walk in the Cubs’ 5-3 loss. It wasn’t exactly ideal conditions for Rizzo’s return. It was another cold, windy night in Chicago.

“There’s nothing you can really do about it,” he said. “You just have fun with it, you have fun with the guys and you make the best of it.” Briefly: The Dodgers acquired minor-league right-hander Ariel Hernandez from the Reds for minor-leaguers Zach Neal, a former A’s pitcher, and Ibandel Isabel . ... Yankees reliever Tommy Kahnle was put on the 10-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis; righthander Luis Cessa was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre . ... Outfielder Christian Yelich (oblique strain) was activated from the 10-day disabled list by the Brewers, and right-hander Jorge Lopez was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
