Ford to use Mustangs in Cup races in ’19

Ford is bringing its Mustang to NASCAR’s top series for the first time. The American automaker said the Mustang will replace the Fusion in the Monster Energy Cup Series beginning February at Daytona Internatio­nal Speedway. Track and field: The University of Oregon will replace historic Hayward Field with a stadium to open in 2020. Oregon revealed plans Tuesday for the stadium, which will be financed by Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his wife, Penny, along with 50 other donors and will host the 2021 world championsh­ips. Hayward Field has hosted seven U.S. Track and Field championsh­ips and six Olympic trials. It was also featured in the 1978 movie “Animal House.” Tennis: Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov and Dominic Thiem all came from a set down to win their second-round matches at the Monte Carlo Masters. Zverev won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 against Gilles Muller, after Dimitrov rallied to beat Pierre-Hugues Herbert 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 and Thiem saved a match point in his 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 win against Andrey Rublev. College basketball: South Carolina’s top scorer and rebounder, Chris Silva, has decided to enter the NBA draft. Silva says he won’t hire an agent, which allows him to return for his senior year if he chooses . ... Wake Forest center Doral Moore will skip his senior season and turn pro. College baseball: Andrew Vaughan went 4-for-5 with a double and his 16th home run of the year for host Cal, but the Bears (21-13) fell 6-4 to Santa Clara, which was led by Jake MacNichols’ three-run homer. The Broncos (16-18) had lost nine in a row. Obituaries: Sportswrit­er Bill Nack, 77, best known for his horse-racing reporting at Sports Illustrate­d, died Friday at his home in Washington. Jurisprude­nce: A former NFL and University of Florida football player, Monty Grow, 46, has been sentenced to nearly 22 years in prison for a health-care fraud scheme that prosecutor­s say bilked the federal government out of about $20 million.
