With 5-under 67, Murray has lead

-

Grayson Murray made seven birdies in his round of 5-under-par 67 to take a one-shot lead Thursday in the PGA Tour’s Texas Open.

“Just the fact I did give myself enough opportunities today for birdie, it took a lot of pressure off,” Murray said.

Of the five players at 68, only Chesson Hadley played in the morning side of the draw. After the wind died in the afternoon at the AT&T Oaks Course at the TPC San Antonio, Keegan Bradley, Ryan Moore, Billy Horschel and Matt Atkins joined Hadley at 68.

Sergio Garcia, playing the Texas Open for the first time since 2010, had a 74. Adam Scott failed to make a birdie in his round of 75. LPGA Tour: Inbee Park shot a 5-under 66 for a one-shot lead over Marina Alex in the opening round of the LA Open at the Wilshire Country Club just south of Hollywood.

Using a new putter, Park birdied four consecutive holes on the back nine before a bogey on the par-4 17th. She quickly recovered and rolled in birdie putts on the second and fifth holes to finish off her round. PGA Tour Champions: Jeff Maggert and Jesper Parnevik shot an 8-under 63 in betterball play to take the first-round lead in the Legends of Golf in Ridgedale, Mo. Mark Calcavecchia and Woody Austin were one shot back of the leaders.

The next three rounds will be played on par-3 courses. Maggert and Parnevik will play the 18-hole Top of the Rock on Friday and Sunday, and the 13-hole Mountain Top on Saturday. European Tour: Bradley Dredge reeled off three birdies in his last five holes to share the lead with Alvaro Quiros at 5-under 67 after the opening round of the Trophee Hassan II event in Rabat, Morocco.
