Thomas Joseph Sheridan

September 14, 1937 – March 14, 2018

-

Resident of Walnut Creek

Thomas Joseph Sheridan joined his fellow Marines on 14 March 2018.

His parents John Joseph Sheridan and Bridget (Betty) Agnes MacManomon were both from Newport, County Mayo, Ireland and immigrated to New York to start a new life. John arrived in 1929 and Bridget in 1930 and they met at a St. Patrick’s Day dance. Tom was born in New York City on 14 September 1937 followed by John Joseph, James Francis and Edward Francis, James Francis is the only brother still living.

After graduating from Archbishop Stepinac in White Plains, New York he enlisted in the Marine Corps and from then on with terrific success his career took him from Charleston to Beirut Lebanon, the Holy Land, Cyprus, Rome during the Olympics on the Pistol and Rifle Team, Japan, and Washington D.C. then lastly San Francisco where he retired after 20 plus years. Tom served two active Tours in Viet Nam.

While stationed at Parris Island he met, fell in love and married the former Mary Jane Craven. Of that marriage they had two very accomplished daughters, Stephanie who is Managing Partner at Steptoe & Johnson in San Francisco and Sherri who is CEO of Mind’s Eye Media. Both daughters are married, Stephanie is married to Scott Jenkins, is with JP and Greg and Sherri is married to Nate Vogel CEO of GeoMagnetic Records.

Tom worked for P.I.E as Maintenance Manager, Super Shuttle also as Maintenance Manager and lastly with Berreta. While still working at Super Shuttle his wife Mary Jane passed away very suddenly. After her passing years later, he was going to attend a reunion and a friend told him his daughter worked for the Navy and was in Virginia Beach and if he had time call her, he did, and they were married on 17 March 2006 on St. Patrick’s Day.

Both now retired they volunteered, traveled, and enjoyed their three grandchildren, Annika, Alexis and Soren.

The last book that Tom was reading was titled “The Run-Up to the Punch Bowl” by John Nolan. The novel cited many names of Marines who Tom served with and some were very influential in his choice of career path, so it is to those men I say Semper Fi.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 2051 Mt. Diablo Blvd. Walnut Creek, CA 94596 on 21 April 2018 at 12:00. A celebration of Thomas Joseph Sheridan will be held at Scott’s 1333N. California Blvd also in Walnut Creek. He will be interred later at Arlington National Cemetery.

I would like to give a special thank you to friends and family who gave support at this very sad time.
