Florence (Flo) Anne Hyland

Passed away peacefully on April 22, 2018 at the age of 83. Flo was born to Terrence and Molly Devine in San Francisco on December 18, 1934. Devoted wife of her beloved husband Joe (deceased). Loving mother of Mike (deceased), Karen (Bob), Bobby (Lisa, deceased), Susie (Randy), Kevin (Rosemary), and Michelle. Preceded in death by her brothers and sisters John, Cathy, Terry, Maureen and Tom. Doting grandmothe­r of 11 grandchild­ren and caring GG of 8 great grandchild­ren. Cherished Auntie Flo to numerous nieces and nephews. Special gratitude to Lisia Saafi, her loving companion/ caregiver.

Flo grew up in San Francisco and attended St. John’s elementary school and St. Vincent’s High School. She met the love of her life, Joe, at the age of 15. Upon Joe’s return from service in the Navy, they married and enjoyed 55 years of wedded bliss. Flo and Joe were long term residents in Daly City.

Flo was employed by the Jefferson Unified School District in the personnel department, where she developed many lifetime friendship­s.

Flo and Joe shared a love for travel and were fortunate enough to travel around the world together.

Flo was a longtime friend to many. She was very active in many charities. The closest to her heart was The Banner of Love (Janet Pomeroy Center). She was a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West and CSEA.

Flo truly was the matriarch of her family. Her house was always open to everyone. She hosted so many holidays and family gatherings in that tiny Daly City home. Her greatest pleasure was being surrounded by family and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 28th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Church, 601 Eucalyptus Drive, San Francisco. Donations may be made to the Janet Pomeroy Center, 207 Skyline Blvd., San Francisco, CA 94132.
