WORTH SEEING

Which Movies to Watch This Weekend

-

Blockers: Leslie Mann, John Cena and Ike Barinholtz play parents who find out that their daughters have a pact to lose their virginity on prom night, and so they go out and try to block the sex from happening. There’s lots of crude humor, and not all the jokes land, but the movie has many hilarious moments. Rated R. 102 minutes. — Mick LaSalle

I Feel Pretty: An insecure woman becomes suddenly convinced that she is beautiful and irresistible and this change in attitude transforms her life. It’s an ideal vehicle for Amy Schumer, a comedy that’s broadly funny, but also endearing and humane. Rated PG-13. 110 minutes. — Mick LaSalle

Little Pink House: Catherine Keener stars in this real-life story about the events leading up to a major court case involving eminent domain, with Keener as a woman who finds that her dream house and her neighborhood are threatened when Pfizer decides to build its plant in her town. Not rated. 98 minutes. — Mick LaSalle

1945: This evocative drama concerns a Hungarian village that is turned upside down when two mysterious Jewish men visit in the months after World War II. It’s a compelling tale of guilt and greed. Not rated. 91 minutes. In Hungarian with English subtitles. — David Lewis

The Rider: Intense and elegaic, this is a character study of a young rodeo cowboy of Lakota heritage who has suffered a devastating accident — he was trampled by a horse during a competition, and now has a steel plate in his head. He has been told his riding days are over. The film remarkably melds documentary and fictional elements — the cowboy is portrayed by Brady Jandreau, who in real life suffered the same injuries. Jandreau’s real-life father and sister are also in the movie, essentially playing themselves. The film was directed by the exceptionally gifted Chloe Zhao (“Songs My Brothers Taught Me”). Rated R. 104 minutes. — Walter Addiego
