_1 Teacher strike: Arizona teachers’ walkout over pay and education funding appears headed into a second week as major school districts say schools will remain closed Monday. The unprecedented statewide job action began Thursday, resulting in closures of schools that educate the majority of the state’s 1.1 million public school students. Recent teacher protests in Arizona and Colorado have followed similar job actions in West Virginia, Kentucky and Oklahoma. Arizona districts whose websites displayed notices saying schools will be closed include several in Phoenix and others in cities across the state, including Tucson and Flagstaff.

_2 Deadly shooting: Two men were killed and five others were injured Sunday in a shootout at a motorcycle club south of Seattle. The men, ages 24 and 36, died after a large fight broke out in the Family Motorcycle Club parking lot where bikers had gathered, said the King County Sheriff ’s office. Two other people also suffered gunshot wounds but are expected to survive. Three others were treated injuries, including one person who crashed his car while fleeing the scene.

_3 Lost driver: A trucker who was missing for four days after his GPS mapping device sent him up the wrong road walked 14 miles and emerged safely from a rugged region of Oregon. Jacob Cartwright, 22, turned up Saturday near the town of La Grande, where an intensive search involving aircraft had been taking place since he went missing Tuesday. Cartwright appeared to be unhurt. Cartwright’s boss, Roy Henry, said Cartwright was driving a load of potato chips, but the tractortrailer got stuck after he took the wrong turn in an area with limited cell phone coverage. The trucker started walking without any food or water, wading through snow at some points. He didn’t stop until Saturday when he neared La Grande.

Suspect captured: A Minnesota woman accused of killing her husband at their home and another woman in Florida to apparently steal her identity appeared before a judge Sunday who ordered that she remain in a Florida jail without bond. Judge Zachary Gill granted Lois Riess, 56, a pretrial detention hearing but the date was not set. Riess arrived in Fort Myers from Texas on Saturday to face charges of homicide and identity theft. A national manhunt for Riess began in March after her husband’s killing. A Florida woman was found dead April 9 in Fort Myers, and investigators believe Riess targeted her because she looked like her. Riess was arrested April 19 in South Padre Island, Texas. Riess will also face trial in Minnesota.

Missing tree: A mystery is brewing at the White House about what happened to the oak tree that President Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron planted last week. The sapling was a gift from Macron on the occasion of his state visit. Photographers snapped away Monday as Trump and Macron shoveled dirt onto the tree during a ceremonial planting on the South Lawn. By the end of the week, the tree was gone and a pale patch of grass was left in its place. The White House hasn’t offered an explanation. The oak sprouted at a World War I battle site that became part of U.S. Marine Corps legend. About 2,000 U.S. troops died in the June 1918 Battle of Belleau Wood, fighting a German offensive.
