Powe, McKeever highlight Cal’s Hall of Fame class

Basketball forward Leon Powe and women’s swimming coach Teri McKeever headline Cal’s 2018 Athletic Hall of Fame class that the school announced Thursday.

Powe, an Oakland native, was Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2004 and second-team All-American in 2006. He won an NBA title with the Boston Celtics in 2008.

McKeever, who has been at Cal since 1992, led the Bears to NCAA championsh­ips in four years: 2009, ’11, ’12 and ’15. McKeever also was the head coach of the U.S. women’s swim team in the 2012 Olympics.

Other electees: Swimmer Duje Draganja, discus thrower Ramon Jimenez-Gaona, wide receiver Geoff McArthur (Cal’s career leader with 3,188 receiving yards), crew coxswain Valerie McClain, runner Alysia Montaño, softball pitcher Kristina Thorson and women’s water polo player Elsie Windes.

The class will be honored at halftime of Cal’s game against Washington on Oct. 27. — Steve Kroner ⏩ The Pac-12 reported a record $509 million in revenue for the 2016-17 financial year.

⏩ An internal audit found extensive mismanagem­ent within the Washington State athletic department, including the possible inflation of home football attendance figures and the improper distributi­on of free tickets to football games.

⏩ Georgia head football coach Kirby Smart received an extended seven-year contract and a compensati­on package worth $49 million — roughly doubling his original deal.

⏩ Miami extended head football coach Mark Richt’s contract through 2023.
