The Jeep Wrangler outsold a bunch of hugely popular cars last month
Jeep Wrangler mania is in full swing: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles reported nearly 30,000 sales of the quintessential offroad SUV in April 2018. That’s a massive number of Wranglers. Not only did its 29,776 units break a monthly sales record for the nameplate, it also was the second-best-selling FCA vehicle overall, only 10,000 or so units behind the Ram pickup. It is important to keep in mind that the Wrangler numbers include both the new JL and the outgoing JK models. Since production of the old model just ended last Friday, we presume a decent chunk of the number moved last month were JKs, although the excitement surrounding the new model was surely a factor in the boost.
We can’t outline the bestselling nameplates overall because General Motors no longer releases monthly sales, but the only vehicles whose reported sales numbers beat the Wrangler in April can be counted on one hand: the Toyota Camry beat the Jeep by just 72 units with 29,848 sold, the Toyota RAV4 sold 31,007 units, the aforementioned Ram hit 39,252 units, and the Ford F-series sold 73,104 units. Here are all the typically top-selling nameplates that the Jeep outperformed last month:
Honda Civic: 28,399 units sold Honda CR-V: 28,323
Toyota Corolla: 25,896
Nissan Rogue: 23,331
Honda Accord: 21,751
Ford Escape: 21,383
