Veronica “Ronnie” Errichson

-

Veronica “Ronnie” Errichson died Friday morning, May 4, at her home in Belmont. She was 95 years old.

Ronnie was born and raised in Chicago and was the oldest of three daughters of Armenian immigrants Alice and Sarkis Koujourian. She graduated from Steinmetz High School and Wright Junior College. Her first job was as a clerical worker on the war bonds effort during World War II. Then in 1945, she got an office job in the training department of United Airlines in Chicago. A year later Ronnie moved west when the airline relocated her department to the rodeo and state capital of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

It was there that she fell in love with Elmer “Eric” Errichson, an engineer in the training department. The couple moved to the Peninsula when Eric was transferred to United’s new SFO operations base. They married in 1950 and several years later settled in Belmont. In 1968, Ronnie managed to charm the nuns at the College of Notre Dame to offer her a position as a secretary in the music department. She enjoyed working at the College for over two decades.

Ronnie had an extraordinarily close bond with her younger sisters Terry and Bea, who both predeceased her. Her beloved Eric died in 2010, days after his 100th birthday.

Ronnie is survived by her immediate family, including her nieces Lynn Pounian, Carol Padilla, and Shirley Kelch, nephew Steve Pounian, brother-in-law Charles Pounian, cousins Edward Kalajian and George Googasian, their spouses, children and grandchildren, and her much larger family of friends, including her Belmont neighbors; her fellow retirees of United Airlines and the College of Notre Dame and their many children and grandchildren, including her godson Steve Pollard; the members of the Garden Club of San Carlos; and the members and clergy of the Congregational Church in San Mateo that she and Eric attended since the 1940s.

Ronnie generously shared her love, compassion, and common sense with others. She was an angel of peace. The effect of her being on those around her was profound and will be deeply missed.

Although Ronnie loved flowers, she would have preferred that any donations in her memory be made to the Congregational Church of San Mateo.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, May 11 at 3:00pm at the Congregational Church of San Mateo, 225 Tilton Avenue, San Mateo, CA 94401.
