Oakland Tech defeats Lowell, wins crown

Adam Crampton was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning, giving Oakland Tech a 3- 2 win over Lowell and the Transbay championsh­ip Friday at San Francisco State.

It was the second straight extra- inning, one- run loss for Lowell ( 22- 11), which lost 4- 3 in eight innings at Laney College on Wednesday. The winning run in that game also scored on a bases- loaded hit batter.

Like in the first game, Lowell took a two- run lead. An RBI single by Jack Schonherr in the fourth inning came after he scored on an error in the third.

Tech ( 21- 5), making its ninth straight appearance in the Transbay, scored two unearned runs in the seventh off Alex Bradshaw ( eight innings, eight hits, nine strikeouts, two walks).

Lowell loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth, but ran into two outs. The Cardinals loaded the bases again in the ninth, but winning pitcher Matt Burnoski struck out the side.

It is Tech’s fourth Transbay title and second in three seasons.

Trace Tammaro blasted a grand slam and Chris Santiago had three hits and four RBIs, lifting No. 3 De La Salle- Concord ( 22- 4) to an 11- 4 win over No. 4 Foothill ( 20- 5) in the East Bay Athletic League championsh­ip game. Host De La Salle had 14 hits, four off starter Brett Hansen, a Vanderbilt commit who went just one inning and allowed four runs. Jeremy Lea had a two- run double for Foothill.

Swimming Adam Wesson and diving: took Mitty second freshman place and sophomore teammate Tyler Wesson fourth in the diving competitio­n as the state championsh­ips began at Clovis West ( Fresno County). River Valley- Yuba City junior Ryan Little won with 558.10 points to better Wesson ( 543.45). Bay Area athletics dominated the swimming prelims. Granada- Livermore junior Miranda Heckman and Monte VistaDanvi­lle junior Zoie Hartman were top qualifiers in two events each: Heckman in the 200- yard freestyle ( 1 minute, 46.59 seconds) and 500 free ( 4: 43.31) and Hartman in the 200 individual medley ( 1: 58.32) and the 100 breaststro­ke ( 1: 00.02). Top local qualifiers among the boys were Northgate- Sancov ( 200 Walnut free, 1: Creek 37.39), senior Serra Alexei senior Alec Cullen ( 100 breaststro­ke, 54.10), Foothill- Pleasanton junior Jonah Cooper ( 100 backstroke, 46.62), Amador Valley- Pleasanton senior Chris Jhong ( 200 IM, 1: 46.82) and his sophomore teammate Lleyto Plattel ( 500 free, 4: 25.44). The San Ramon Valley- Danville boys 200 free relay ( 1: 22.83) and 400 free relay teams ( 3: 03.13) were both top seeds.

Boys volleyball: Irvington- Fremont (30-4) in Division 1 and AcalanesLa­fayette (27-8) in Division 2 won their first North Coast Section titles Thursday with championsh­ip wins over Amador Valley ( five games) and Northgate ( four games), respective­ly. St. Patrick- St. Vincent- Vallejo ( 33- 3), with a three-set win over Crosspoint­Hayward, won its fourth Division 3 title after taking three straight crowns starting in 2011.

Lacrosse: Charlie Rudy scored seven goals and Jamie Level five, leading host Novato to its fourth straight NCS girls championsh­ip Thursday, taking the Division 1 title with a 13- 9 win over Oak Ridge- El Dorado Hills. Goalie Katie McGrath stopped 10 shots for the Hornets ( 24- 1). MiramonteO­rinda ( 22- 4) won the Division 2 girls crown. The boys squads of San Ramon Valley ( 22- 2) and Marin AcademySan Rafael ( 16- 2) were the Division 1 and 2 champions, respective­ly.

Boys tennis: Top- seeded Menlo School- Bellarmine final of championsh­ip the Atherton CIF/ moved USTA and into with second- Northern Saturday’s two seeded wins California each Folsom at Broadstone ( Sacramento Racquet County). Club Menlo in defeated Pleasant Valley- Chico ( 7- 0) and Redwood- Larkspur ( 5- 2) while Bellarmine defeated Jesuit- Carmichael ( 5- 2) and Dougherty ValleySan Ramon ( 4- 3). The Central Coast Section rivals play for the title at 1 p.m.

Track and field: Six state leaders will be in action when section qualifiers take place Saturday. NCS meets are the Tri- Valley at Dublin ( first field event 8:30 a.m ., first running event 9:30 a.m .), Bay Shore at James Logan-Union City (11 a.m .,11:30), Redwood Empire at Santa Rosa ( 9 a.m .,10 a.m .) and Class A at Montgomery­Santa Rosa (10 a.m .,11 a.m .). Top performers qualify for next week’s NCS Meet of Champions at Cal’s Edwards Stadium. The Central Coast Section trials are at Gilroy, starting at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. The state leaders at the NCS Tri- Valley meet—Jet tC harv et( HeritageBr­ent wood ,800 meters ,1:52.60), Aidan Jackman ( Clayton ValleyConc­ord, 110 hurdles, 13.98; 300 hurdles, 37.47) and Alyssa Brewer ( California- San Ramon, 800, 2: 08.99); NCS Bay Shore — Tierra Robinson- Jones ( Bishop O’DowdOaklan­d, 400, 53.15); NCS Redwood Empire — Liam Anderson ( Redwood, 3,200, 8: 52.74); CCS trials — Alex Enos ( St. Ignatius, long jump, 25 feet).
