Family and friends were stunned to learn that the man killed early Tuesday in San Jose was identified as 25- year- old Alex Fielder.

Ciera Hernandez, a former girlfriend, has a 2 ½ - year- old son with Fielder, and she called him a devoted father to their son, Ryder. The couple were together for about four years.

“We were still very close,” Hernandez said. “He was such a good dad. He really just adored Ryder.”

Fielder was shot and killed around 1: 11 a. m. on the 400 block of Blossom Hill Road on Tuesday, according to the San Jose Police Department. Officers found two men suffering from “at least one gunshot wound each,” said Sgt. Enrique Garcia, a department spokesman.

Both victims were taken to the hospital and Fielder, of San Jose, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The other man suffered non- lifethreatening injuries, Garcia said.

Garcia said no suspects have been identified in the shooting.

Hernandez said that her former partner loved baseball, which he played in high school and throughout his life. She called him a “homebody” who had a few close friends and enjoyed spending time with his mother and son at home.

Recently, Hernandez said, Fielder had been struggling with health issues that were keeping him mostly at home. The news of his death struck her as unbelievable.

“I was so shocked,” said Hernandez, who was told by Fielder’s mom.

They’re now searching for answers.

“We literally know about as much as anyone else,” Hernandez said. “It’s really frustrating because we want to know what happened, and we don’t know anything and the police aren’t saying anything. We want justice for Alex.”

A celebration of Fielder’s life will be held June 2.
