-

Stephanie Carmel Rand passed away peacefully on May 21 at her home in Piedmont. She was a fourth generation San Franciscan born on April 4, 1947.

She was raised in Kent Woodlands in Marin County and graduated from Redwood High School. Stephanie cherished her college days at the University of California, Berkeley. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Her art history studies took her abroad to Florence, Italy. There, she further curated her love of art, travel and Italian culture.

A long-time Piedmont resident for over 40 years, Stephanie was an active member of many non-profit and community organizations including: Cancer League, Hoe and Hope Garden Club, Hill Branch of Oakland Children’s Hospital, and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco East Bay Auxiliary. She held many posts including president, treasurer and Holly Ball and Winter Ball Chair. She loved to help and developed many incredible friendships along the way.

Her artistic, creative spirit, and eye for style was felt in everything she did; whether it was treasure hunting at the Alameda Antique Faire, refinishing an old piece of furniture, tending to her garden, planning an event, or doing art and crafts with her grandchildren. She always had a project.

Stephanie and her family also spent time together in Sun Valley, Idaho. In winter, she enjoyed downhill skiing, a lifelong passion, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing. In summer, she enjoyed events sponsored by the Sun Valley Symphony and the Sun Valley Center for the Arts. Outside, she enjoyed golfing, fly-fishing, hiking and most recently pickleball.

Family and friends remember Stephanie as creative, fearless, full of energy, kind, thoughtful – and always with style.

Stephanie is survived by her husband Robert, whom she married Valentine’s Day 1975; her children Senta (husband Angus Wilson) and Jason; grandchildren Finn and Annabelle Wilson; cousins Carmen Sepic and Mimi Schultz; Sage, the family dog. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Smith of Kentfield, California.
