Kershaw returns to DL

Los Angeles Dodgers lefthander Clayton Kershaw returned to the disabled list Friday, this time with a strained lower back.

In his return from a DL stint necessitat­ed by left biceps tendinitis, Kershaw experience­d tightness during his five-inning outing against Philadelph­ia on Thursday.

An MRI exam didn’t reveal any tears, manager Dave Roberts said, but there is inflammati­on and Kershaw had an injection.

“Don’t think it’s too serious,” Roberts said. “That’s a positive.”

Kershaw, who spent time on the DL in each of the previous two seasons with a back injury, is 1-4 this season with a 2.76 ERA spanning eight starts. Injury report: The Brewers placed starting pitcher Zach Davies on the DL with right rotator cuff inflammati­on . ... The Red Sox put outfielder Mookie Betts on the DL because of a left abdominal strain. .... The Rockies placed outfielder David Dahl on the DL with a broken right foot and activated second baseman DJ LeMahieu from the DL . ... The Tigers activated first baseman Miguel Cabrera from the DL.

Briefly: The Red Sox released first baseman Hanley Ramirez, a week after designatin­g him for assignment. Boston is responsibl­e for the $15.25 million remaining on his contract . ... The Brewers announced that catcher Jett Bandy was outrighted to Triple-A after being designated for assignment last week.
