Beverly Ottem Mohr

-

Beverly Ottem Mohr passed away peacefully on May 25, 2018. Beverly was born on September 29, 1923 in San Francisco, CA to Arthur and Ethel Ottem, and shortly thereafter they moved to Sacramento. The Great Depression began when Beverly was seven years old. She had vivid memories of sitting in her backyard while her mother cooked and fed those in need.

Beverly graduated from McClatchy High School in Sacramento in 1941, and entered Stanford University that same year. Beverly joined the Alpha Omega Pi Sorority at Stanford and was able to stay in touch with many of her AOP sisters throughout her lifetime. Beverly received her AB and Law degree and was admitted to the Bar in San Francisco on December 18, 1946. That same weekend, she met the man she was destined to marry, J. Henry (Hank) Mohr. She began her first job practicing law in San Francisco. Hank was a handsome Lieutenant Commander in the Navy and they married on October 4, 1947 on Treasure Island.

Bev and Hank started their family when son Craig was born December 10, 1948. They moved to Corte Madera, then Redwood City and finally to Palo Alto. The Mohr house was always busy with neighborhood parties, BBQs, jam making and large family gatherings at all holidays. In 1970, Beverly and Hank started a new company that exported pool equipment. They traveled the world and collected many beautiful pieces of art. Even with all the traveling they did, their favorite places were all in California: Palo Alto, Pajaro Dunes and Blue Lake Springs.

In 2002, Bev and Hank moved to The Forum in Cupertino where they made new friends and reconnected with others. They loved their beautiful condo at the Forum with its view of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Beverly’s life-long drive to learn and explore her own spirituality led her to The Iona Center and the wonderful women in her dream group, Centerpoint.

Beverly was predeceased by her husband Hank in May 2009, and is survived by her son Craig Mohr (Seran Mohr), daughter Carla Raffetto (Bill Raffetto), daughter Andrea Gandolfo (Steve Gandolfo), her 5 beautiful granddaughters: Nicole Mohr Hindley, Stephanie Mohr, Toni Raffetto, Christina Gandolfo and Grace Gandolfo and finally, Cameron Hindley, her great grandson.

There will be a memorial service at Alta Mesa Chapel & Cemetery in Palo Alto on Saturday June 9, 2018 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula, Planned Parenthood or The Alzheimer’s Foundation.
