Animus toward immigrants

-

Regarding “Sessions toughens rules on asylum” (Page One, June 12): I’m astonished that our country’s attorney general, Jeff Sessions, has decided that victims of domestic or gang violence, in mostly Central American countries, will no longer be eligible for asylum in the United States.

Too many women in places like Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador become (along with their children) refugees who are forced to flee extreme abuse from their husbands. Are they not worthy of protection as a social group, since their home countries won’t shield them from such violence?

Sadly, the Trump administration’s animus toward immigrants — both current and possibly new ones — seems to increase with each passing day.
