Ex-Giants prospect to debut for Yanks

-

Right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga will be brought up from Double-A by the Yankees to make his major-league debut against Tampa Bay on Friday night.

The 23-year-old returned last year following Tommy John surgery. He is 3-1 with a 4.32 ERA in six starts at Double-A Trenton after starting 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA at Class A Tampa this season, striking out 58 in 45 innings.

“We think he has a very bright future. His stuff is really good. He’s a guy that pounds the strike zone,” New York manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday. “I don’t feel like he’ll be overwhelmed.”

Loaisiga fills the slot that opened when Masahiro Tanaka injured both hamstrings while sprinting home to score on a sacrifice fly Friday.

Signed by the Giants in September 2012, Loaisiga was released in September 2015. The Nicaragua native signed with the Yankees, made his only start of 2016 on May 13 for Class A Columbia, then had Tommy John surgery. He returned June 26 in the Gulf Coast League.

Harper hit twice: Washington right fielder Bryce Harper left the game against the Yankees in the eighth inning after he was hit by a pitch for the second time.

Harper was hit on the right elbow by a 90-mph pitch from CC Sabathia in the fifth inning and fell. He was struck on his left foot by an 89-mph slider from Dellin Betances in the eighth.

Dodgers’ Buehler on DL:

Dodgers rookie pitcher Walker Buehler was placed on the 10-day disabled list. The 23year-old right-hander underwent an MRI exam that revealed a right rib microfracture, an injury he sustained when he was hit by a 108-mph line drive by Colorado’s Trevor Story on May 21.

Tulowitzki update: It’s likely to be more than a year between Troy Tulowitzki’s appearances in a major-league game, but the injured shortstop for the Blue Jays says he’s getting there. “I can honestly say for the first time in a while I feel like I’m headed in the right direction,” the Santa Clara native said.

Tulowitzki, 33, a five-time All-Star, had surgery April 2 to remove bone spurs from both heels. He’s taking groundballs, hitting and running in the outfield. He last appeared in a game July 28.

Briefly: Tampa Bay righthander Chris Archer has no timetable for throwing off a mound again and could be sidelined through the All-Star break. Archer has been on the 10-day DL since June 3 with a left abdominal strain . ... Minnesota signed right-handed reliever Matt Belisle, bringing him back after a stint with Cleveland . ... Daniel Murphy was activated by Washington to face the Yankees in his season debut; he went 0-for-4 as the designated hitter.
