Helicopter crash: At least one person was killed Sunday when a helicopter crashed into a residence and ignited a fire in Williamsbu­rg, Va., State Police said. Emergency responders were working Sunday night to locate and identify the pilot in the wreckage. A 911 call came in around 5 p.m. about the aircraft striking the town house. The College of William and Mary issued a tweet Sunday warning students of the crash and urging them to avoid the area. Residents reported hearing a large blast upon impact. The Federal Aviation Administra­tion and National Transporta­tion Safety Board were sending investigat­ors to the scene.

Iraqi students: Nearly 100 Iraqi students are beginning a program of education, networking and relationsh­ip-building in the United States at Detroit’s Wayne State University. The school’s Office of Internatio­nal Programs was selected to host the orientatio­n program for the monthlong Iraq Young Leaders Exchange Program for Undergradu­ates, which begins Tuesday. After four days at Wayne State, the students will divide into groups and go to Cal State San Marcos, the University of Arkansas, the University of Texas at Austin and Washington State University.

Police shooting: Florida authoritie­s say a man fatally shot by police had been hospitaliz­ed four times for psychiatri­c treatment in recent years. Jacksonvil­le Sheriff ’s Office Chief of Investigat­ions Chris Butler said police also responded to Harold Eugene Kraai’s address eight times since 2016 for calls including domestic violence and a suicide threat. Butler said Officer R.W. Futch had no option except to use deadly force when Kraai, 52, charged him with a knife outside Kraai’s home Saturday. Kraai’s mother called police when he became violent. Kraai also called 911, telling the dispatcher he was suicidal. State authoritie­s are investigat­ion.

Severe storm: Forecaster­s said Sunday that Tropical Storm Chris churning off the coast of North Carolina is likely to strengthen into a hurricane by Monday but will remain offshore for the next two or three days. The National Hurricane Center said the storm’s center was located south of Cape Hatteras. Sea swells along the coast of North Carolina and the mid-Atlantic states could produce dangerous surf and rip currents this week.

Border wall: Property owners along the U.S.-Mexico border in southern Texas say they’ve recently received notices from the federal government asking to review their land, which could be used for border wall constructi­on. Residents in the town of Escobares received letters from the Army Corps of Engineers and U.S. Customs and Border Protection requesting their consent to survey their land. Rio Grande City School District board president Daniel Garcia said the district received a letter about district property that’s being considered for “tactical infrastruc­ture, such as a border wall.” Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, who represents the area, said federal officials told him there have been more than 200 such requests made in Starr and Hidalgo counties.
