Frances Ann Bryner

August 20, 1919 - June 18, 2018

Ann was born and raised in North Carolina. She was a true southern beauty.

She graduated from South Carolina State Nursing Hospital in June 1941.

She worked as Head nurse in mental hospitals in Columbia, South Carolina and Winston-Salem, North Carolina prior to joining the U.S. Army Nurses Corps in 1943.

During WW II she joined the 59th Evacuation Hospital while her brothers also served. Ann first reported to Casablanca. She was then sent to Palermo, where she met her “sweetheart” Dr. Sergius (Serge) Bryner. They were married in Epinal, France October 26, 1944.

Always near the front lines, Ann also served at Anzio Beach for which she was awarded the Bronze Star for her heroic service.

She was a wonderful wife and Mother. Her first love was always Serge and her children. Ann was always on the go, volunteering at Allied Arts, Children of Mary, Children’s Health Council and all the different schools her children attended. With her husband, Serge, she traveled to all parts of the globe.

She was a dynamic tennis player, an avid hiker and gardener.

She is survived by her 5 children Carol Wagner (Steve, Renee, Brittney, Matthew, Amber, Cameron), Marget Gamache (Mark), Kitty Mykka (Lance), James Bryner (Kitty Sue) Suzanne Bryner, her brothers Jimmy and Bob and her nieces.

Ann is remembered by all who knew her as a kind, generous, loving wife, mother and friend always ready with a welcoming smile and an open heart.

She will be sorely missed by all of us for her love, her laughter, her sense of fun and her joy of life.
