Johnny Manziel

The troubled quarterback will bid for his first win as a starter since he beat the 49ers as a member of the Cleveland Browns in 2015 when he makes his Canadian Football League debut Friday for the Montreal Alouettes when they host the Hamilton TigerCats. The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner began the season with Hamilton, didn’t play in a game, and was dealt to Montreal on July 22. “I felt like the thing I’ve been missing ... is reps,” Manziel said. “I don’t think there’s anything to be nervous about.” Manziel, 25, appeared in 14 NFL games overall but was cut by Cleveland after several off-the-field incidents.

Jerry Kramer

The new Pro Football Hall of Famer, who made the key block on the winning play in the Ice Bowl (the 1967 NFL championship game) says he feels Terrell Owens’ pain. He had to wait nearly half a century to become the 14th member of Vince Lombardi’s Packers to make it into the Hall. “I’d been through the emotional package that Terrell is going through,” Kramer, 82, said of fellow 2018 inductee Owens, who is skipping Saturday’s ceremonies in Canton, Ohio, miffed that he wasn’t a first-ballot Hall of Famer. “I went through a period where I didn’t want to hear about the Hall of Fame,” Kramer said. “I literally drove by the Hall of Fame three or four times and I wouldn’t go in because I was not invited in.”
