Warren Verner Hagberg

Warren Verner Hagberg, 86, passed away on July 14, 2018 in Reno. He was the husband of Marilyn Marlow Hagberg (d. June 29, 2018). They shared 64 years of marriage together.

Born in San Francisco, He was the son of Vilma Olga Ingeborg and Verner John Hagberg. He graduated from SF State with a BS in biological science and a Master’s in education administra­tion. He had a long career with the South San Francisco Unified School District as a teacher, Head of the Science Department, and Vice Principal (El Camino High School); Principal (Alta Loma Middle School); and Assistant District Superinten­dent. He was the Director of the Russell Bede School in San Mateo and served as the Director of the Bay Area Science Fair. He served for several years in the Coast Guard, stationed in Alameda.

He was on the board of the Tahoe Swiss Village HOA, the Promontory Point HOA and the San Mateo Credit Union. He volunteere­d for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Mission Hospice, and Filoi. He was an involved member of First Presbyteri­an Church, Burlingame, and was an Elder and Clerk of Session. He enjoyed discussing many topics, especially those related to politics, history, science, education, and the fine art of negotiatio­n. His love of sports was always evident as he was a long and ardent fan of the San Francisco 49ers, the CAL football and basketball teams, and the Golden State Warriors. In his younger years, he was a basketball player and coach, as well as an avid tennis player. He had a way with a pun that was always appreciate­d. He will be missed as a beloved Boompa to his grandchild­ren. He loved spending time at the family cabin in Lake Tahoe and the many friends that graced our homes over the years. He will be remembered for his deep affection for his wife, Marilyn, his kind and generous spirit, and his love and care for his family, friends, and community.

He is survived by his daughter, Cristina Haverty, his son, Scott (Sharon) Hagberg, and his grandchild­ren, Daniel (Charlotte Phelps) Haverty, Sarah (Sean) Stevens, Eric Hagberg, and sister-in-law, Lois Ford and family. He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Hagberg.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyteri­an Church of Burlingame, 1500 Easton Drive, Burlingame, CA 94010.
