She leaves behind her beloved sister Frances Bemis and her loving nieces Janice Phares, Kim Hanson and Nanette Rothe as well as grandnieces and grandnephews Morgan Powell, Lindsay Ward, Amy Amato, Brien Simmons, Scott, Teresa and Kevin Green.

Elaine graduated from George Washington High School in San Francisco and attended Lux College. Her first job was at the Emporium in downtown San Francisco. She spent the majority of career in the service of the Department of the Army at Fort Mason and at Sixth Army Headquarters in the Presidio where she retired as Chief of the Supply and Services Division in 1986.

Elaine loved spending time in Yosemite National Park and spent many summers there with family and friends in the housekeeping cabins at Yosemite Lodge. She and her sister Eve hiked many trails in the High Sierras. Later in life, Elaine traveled the globe with family and friends with great affinity for British locales and places rich in history. Elaine’s generous nature and sassy sense of humor will be sorely missed. She genuinely cared about the people in her life and was loved and admired by everyone whose lives she touched.
