Carmelo Anthony

The 10-time All-Star signed a one-year, $2.4 million deal with the Houston Rockets on Monday. Anthony was traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Atlanta Hawks last month before the Hawks released him. Anthony, 34, joins a team led by MVP James Harden and point guard Chris Paul. The Rockets hope the addition of Anthony will help them contend for their first title since 1995. They lost to the Warriors in the Western Conference finals last season. Anthony will get a fresh start in Houston after spending last season with the Thunder, with whom he averaged a career-low 16.2 points in 78 games. The third overall pick in the 2003 draft has averaged 24.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3 assists in a 15-year career. The 6-foot-8 forward has averaged more than 20 points every year of his career except last season. He led the NBA in scoring in 2012-13 (28.7).

Jim Neidhart

The former pro wrestler known as “The Anvil” who joined his brother-in-law Bret Hart in one of the top tag teams in the 1980s with the WWE, has died. He was 63. The Pasco Sheriff’s Office said Neidhart fell at home, hit his head and “succumbed to his injury” on Monday in Wesley Chapel, Fla. No foul play was suspected. Ross Hart, his brother-in-law and a former pro wrestler, said that Neidhart suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and it was believed he suffered a grand mal seizure Monday. Neidhart’s daughter, known as Natalya, wrestles for the WWE and is a former women’s champion. Neidhart made appearance­s with his daughter in “Total Divas,” a WWE reality series. “What a great run we had. I couldn’t believe how it took off,” manager Jimmy Hart said, “but the reason why was, Neidhart was such a great character back then. Bret was more cool; the girls loved him.
