Raiders consider another move: from Napa to Reno
The Raiders are considering holding training camp in Reno when the team moves to Las Vegas before the 2020 season.
Team President Marc Badain toured potential training sites Thursday at the University of Nevada and two high schools.
He told reporters following the tour with Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve and others that he is committed to making sure the training camp is in northern Nevada.
Badain said the decision will be based partly on where the team does its offseason training. He said the Raiders scouted three dozen sites before picking their current training camp site in Napa.
Schieve said she’ll do what she can to bring the Raiders to Reno but won’t support the use of local tax money to get it done.
Papa joins 49ers coverage: Greg Papa, for more than two decades the radio voice of the Raiders, will take his talents to the South Bay this season and host 49ers pregame and postgame coverage on NBC Sports Bay Area, the network announced.
Papa will be joined on the broadcasts by former 49ers Jeff Garcia and Donte Whitner beginning with the Sept. 9 season opener against Minnesota.
The Raiders, who will move to Las Vegas in 2020, replaced Papa with Brent Musberger last month and also told former coach and radio analyst Tom Flores that he was being replaced by former Raider Lincoln Kennedy. Friday’s games: Christian McCaffrey had 120 yards from scrimmage in the first half, 71 yards coming on a touchdown run, as the Panthers defeated the visiting Dolphins 27-20. McCaffrey had 92 yards rushing on five carries and caught four passes for 28 yards . ... Bills quarterback AJ McCarron fractured his collarbone in visiting Buffalo’s 19-17 win over the Browns. McCarron is competing with Nathan Peterman and rookie Josh Allen for the starting job . ... Former Cal quarterback Davis Webb passed for 140 yards and the go-ahead touchdown in the second quarter to help the visiting Giants beat the Lions 30-17 . ... Patrick Mahomes had an up-and-down game but connected with Tyreek Hill on a 69-yard touchdown with his final throw to help the visiting Chiefs beat the Falcons 28-14 . ... Sam Bradford completed all six of his passes for 61 yards and rookie Josh Rosen went 10-for-16 for 107 yards and a 13-yard touchdown to rookie Christian Kirk in the visiting Cardinals’ 20-15 win over the Saints. Briefly: Free-agent wide receiver Dez Bryant met with the Browns for a second day and “conversations continue” between the sides, a person familiar with negotiations said . ... The Seahawks signed linebacker Erik Walden and running back Justin Stockton, terminated the contract of defensive end Marcus Smith and waived cornerback Elijah Battle.
