Tibbetts funeral: Several hundred people attended the funeral Sunday for Mollie Tibbetts, the University of Iowa student whose body was found last week outside her hometown. The funeral Mass was held at BGM High School in Brooklyn, which Tibbetts, 20, attended. Cristhian Bahena Rivera is charged with first-degree murder in her death. Investigators say the Mexican farmworker led them to a cornfield where Tibbetts’ body was found.

Holiday patrols: State troopers in California and Nevada are joining forces to step up enforcement this week along Interstate 80 from San Francisco to the Nevada-Utah line. The Interstate 80 Initiative running is aimed at reducing distracted and reckless driving through the Labor Day weekend. The measure coincides with several events that attract tens of thousands of people to northern Nevada, including the Burning Man festival in the desert north of Reno.

Gun control: Student advocates finished a 50-mile, fourday march on Sunday in Massachusetts to the headquarters of gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson. More than 100 protesters rallied outside company headquarters in Springfield. The marchers condemned Smith & Wesson for making the rifle used in the February mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. The group wants the company to donate $5 million to gun violence research.

Houston storm: Voters in Houston and its surrounding county marked the anniversary of Hurricane Harvey by approving the issuance of $2.5 billion in bonds to fund floodcontrol projects that might mitigate the damage caused by future storms. About 85 percent of voters approved the referendum held Saturday. Harvey, which made landfall as a powerful Category 4 storm on Aug. 25, 2017, killed 68 people and caused an estimated $125 billion in damage. Vintage Apple: A piece of computer history that helped launch a trilliondollar company is hitting the auction block. A fully functioning Apple-1 being auctioned by RR Auction in Boston on Sept. 25 is one of only 60 or so remaining of the original 200 that were designed and built by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in 1976 and 1977. It was restored to its original, operational state by Apple expert Corey Cohen. The system even includes the original keyboard. It shows the humble beginnings of company based in Cupertino, which recently became the world’s first publicly traded company to be valued at $1 trillion. The Apple 1 originally sold for about $666. It could get $300,000 or more at auction.
