Phillies swing deal for Mets’ Bautista

-

The Phillies acquired outfielder Jose Bautista from the Mets on Tuesday for a player to be named or cash.

Bautista hit.196 with 11 homers and 42 RBIs for the Braves and Mets this season. The Phillies are 4½ games behind firstplace Atlanta in the NL East after Tuesday’s 5-4 loss to the Nationals in which Bautista pinch hit and struck out.

A six-time All-Star for Toronto from 2010 through 2015, Bautista has 342 career homers. Servais styled: Seattle manager Scott Servais kept his word to Edwin Diaz, matching the closer’s flashy haircut after he’d promised he’d get one if Diaz got 50 saves.

Diaz picked up his 50th save Saturday, and Servais sat in the chair for Diaz’s personal barber Tuesday. The 51-year-old left with a pair of shaved lines along each side of the head, coming to a point behind the ear before curving toward the back of the head.

“I think it’s looking fresh, man,” Diaz told MLB.com. “I think he looks like the swaggiest manager in the league.” Standing pat: The Cardinals removed the interim tag from Mike Shildt’s title, promoting him to manager after he has led the team into postseason contention since replacing the fired Mike Matheny.

The Cardinals have gone 27-12 since July 15 and moved into the top spot in the NL wild-card standings under Shildt. The team was 47-46 when Matheny was fired. Injury report: St. Louis placed second baseman Kolten Wong on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring and recalled infielder Patrick Wisdom, a St. Mary’s alum, from Triple-A Memphis . ... San Diego placed left-hander Clayton Richard on the DL because of inflammation in his left knee, which will require season-ending surgery . ... Minnesota announced pitcher Michael Pineda, who had been on a rehab assignment after elbow surgery, will miss the rest of the season with a meniscus tear in his knee.
