Boats collide: The body of a woman who was among four people missing after two boats crashed on the Colorado River was recovered Monday, officials said. Arizona responders said the body of Christine Lewis, 51, was found in a section of the river that marks the border between California and Arizona. The search continued Monday for the three other missing people. A boat carrying 10 people and another with six people on board collided head-on Saturday night in Moabi Regional Park near Needles (San Bernardino County), ejecting more than a dozen people. Both boats sank and passing boaters pulled people from the water.

Eight wounded: Eight people were wounded, two critically, in a shooting at a San Bernardino apartment complex during a dice game, police said Monday. Officers arrived at a chaotic scene late Sunday night and had to call for help after a hostile crowd emerged from the complex, police spokeswoman Sadie Albers said. She said investigators were still trying to determine how the shooting unfolded and what preceded it. “Most of the witnesses are being uncooperative, so we’re not really sure what happened prior to the shooting,” she said. No arrests had been made by Monday.

Racist rant: A Pennsylvania Republican official who referred to black NFL players who kneel during the national anthem as “baboons” in a Facebook post has resigned. Former Beaver County Republican Committee secretary Carla Maloney resigned Friday in a letter to the committee’s chairman. Maloney apologized for her “insensitive” posts and said she would “work to show everyone” who she is. Maloney posted about athletes who have knelt to protest social injustice. In another post, she said “overpaid ignorant blacks” should “go to Africa.” The Beaver County Republican Committee denounced her comments.

Officer shot: A police officer was shot Monday near a Walmart in Covington, Ga., officials said. Officer Matt Cooper, 34, was flown to a hospital after the shooting in serious but stable condition. Officers were responding to a report of a shoplifting when the suspects ran behind the store and fired, hitting one of the officers. Suspect Aaron Demonta Fleming, 21, was fatally shot; two others were in police custody.

Protest march: Police arrested the organizer of an anti-violence rally that sought to shut down part of an expressway near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Monday. A State Police trooper told the Rev. Gregory Livingston that he would be arrested if he didn’t leave an area close to the expressway. Livingston responded “arrest me,” and the trooper led him away. In all, a dozen demonstrators were arrested. Livingston said he wanted to highlight inequities in the nation’s third-latest city. Poverty and a lack of investment in minority neighborhoods underpins much of the deadly violence, he said. Troopers blocked access to Interstate 90, and no protesters appeared to reach it.
