On Wednesday morning, August 29, 2018, Lois Barbara Pape passed away peacefully at Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame, surrounded by her loving family, after fighting complications of lung cancer.

Lois was born on January 17, 1934 in San Francisco to parents Edith and Charles Leonhardt. Lois grew up in San Francisco and attended Lincoln High School. It was during Lois’ high school years that she met a charming, handsome man, Ron Pape, who would soon become her husband on February 15, 1953. A year later their son Larry was born and Lois and Ron began raising their family in San Bruno. After the births of their daughters Susie, Cathy and Caron, the Pape family moved to their current Millbrae home in 1962 where their youngest daughter Tracey was born. With feisty determination and a no-nonsense manner, Lois lovingly raised five children and eleven grandchildren.

Lois and Ron loved taking their family on summer vacations to Russian River and Twain Harte, and later Twain Harte became the family’s second home. Lois and Ron also loved going to Maui, vacationing there twice a year enjoying extended visits with friends.

Lois’ grandchildren treasured their visits to Grandma’s house for the many family birthdays and holiday celebrations, where Lois was the center of the family’s infamous hospitality and warmth. Of course, a summer was not complete without visiting Lois and Ron at the beach of Twain Harte Lake before it was time to go back to school! Lois faithfully hosted an annual 4th of July dinner for friends and family at their Twain Harte cabin, and she cherished the friendships made there and the summer’s vibrant conversations and card games at “her spot” on the beach at the lake.

Lois is preceded in her passing by parents Charles and Edith Leonhardt, brother Chuck Leonhardt and daughter Caron Watts. Lois is survived by her loving and devoted husband of over sixty-five years, Ron Pape, son Larry Pape, daughters Susie Martin (Rob), Cathy Gilbert, Tracey Kohtz (Ken) and grandchildren Danielle Roach (Dan), Joshua Camilleri (Jenn), Jessica Cesca (Dan), Colin Kohtz, Rachelle Martin (Nick), Lucy Kloepfer (John), Brian Gilbert (Kelley), Veronica Kohtz (Lino), Justin Martin, Sarah Gilbert (Karla) and Zachary Kohtz. Lois is also survived by her growing amount of greatgrandchildren including Amaya Camilleri, Marloe Roach, Desmond Roach, Gianna Camilleri and Amelia Camilleri. Further, Lois is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and dear longtime friends.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 5th, at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of the Highlands on El Camino Real at 194 Millwood Drive in Millbrae.
