Louis Calixte Lalanne

Cal Lalanne died peacefully at home on August 27, 2018. A native San Franciscan, Cal was born on October 23, 1927, the son of Louis Jacques and Julie Bareilles Lalanne. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School in San Francisco in 1945 and the University of California Berkeley in 1950 where he was also a member of the Theta Xi Fraternity. He became a Certified Public Accountant with his own firm in San Francisco and practiced for 42 years. When his mother Julie, who survived her husband Louis Jacques for over a decade, passed in 1979, Cal, an only child, kept the famous, 125-year-old family restaurant, “The Ritz Old Poodle Dog” operating in the Financial District of San Francisco for several more years.

Cal was President of the Mary’s Help Hospital Community Advisory Board, served on the Saint Ignatius College Preparator­y Board of Regents, President of the Cal Alumni Club of Oakmont, and Treasurer of Sons in Retirement Branch 92. He was a 50-year member of the Olympic Club in San Francisco and the Oakmont Golf Club where he enjoyed the game of golf for many years. Cal loved time with his family, his dogs, watching sports, tennis, skiing and his Cal Bears. He was an avid volunteer basketball coach at St. Emydius and St. Cecilia Grammar School’s in San Francisco. He loved traveling and spent time in France visiting his grandparen­ts’ birthplace as well as enjoying the rest of Europe and parts of Asia. Cal was fun loving and passionate about life.

He is survived by his former wife, Lida Granucci Lalanne of San Francisco, the mother of his dearly beloved four children, Kenneth, Robert (Millicent), Suzanne Miller (Marc) and James (Monica). He also leaves behind his current beloved wife of 40 years, Wendy and her three children, Elizabeth Gardner, Susanne Truelove (Robert) and Laurence Knott (Jill). He was the proud grandfathe­r of Stephanie Mills (Jeff), Danielle Martin (Greg), Megan, Mia and Alex Miller, Jackie and Michaela Lalanne, Max and Jerrad Lalanne, and four greatgrand­daughters, Molly, Regan, Hailey and Cailin. He was also the proud step-grandfathe­r of Wendy, Nicholas and Jeremiah Truelove (Megan), Gabriella McClymont, Lauren and Philip Knott and step greatgrand­father to Tristian, Chloe and Sawyer Truelove.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 7th at 11 a.m. at Star of the Valley Catholic Church, 545 White Oak Drive, Santa Rosa, 95409.
