A Hayward man arrested this week on suspicion of robbery, burglary and child sex assault is also a suspect in a Fremont armed home invasion, authorities said Thursday.

Alexander Rhodes, 30, was taken into custody in San Francisco when authorities matched his vehicle license plate to one parked in the driveway of the home where the attempted burglary occurred Monday.

In the burglary attempt, a 29-year-old man arriving to his home on Magellan Drive in Fremont around 3 p.m. saw an unfamiliar vehicle parked in his driveway. When he walked up to the door, two men threatened him with a gun and demanded cash and marijuana, officials said.

The three fought over the gun, and after the two assailants pushed a 64-year-old woman in the home to the ground, the man broke free and called 911. The assailants fled, but the man gave officers the vehicle’s license plate.

Detectives ran the license plate number and connected the vehicle to Rhodes, a transient known to frequent Hayward and Castro Valley, they said. After finding the vehicle parked in Hayward, Fremont officers tracked Rhodes to San Francisco, where he was taken into custody, according to police documents.

At the time of his arrest, Rhodes had outstanding warrants for robbery and burglary, as well as a $1 million felony arrest warrant for sexually assaulting a young child. He is currently in Santa Rita Jail in Alameda County.

Rhodes will be arraigned Friday on charges relating to his warrants and the armed home invasion, according to Fremont police spokesman Mike Gebhardt.

The second assailant is still at large, police said. He is described as in his early 30s, wearing all-black clothing and a foam sports mask. Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call Fremont police at 510-7906954.
