_1 Shark attack: A stretch of beach in Encinitas (San Diego County) remained closed Sunday to surfers and swimmers a day after a 13-year-old boy was attacked by a shark while diving for lobsters. Hospital officials said the boy was in serious condition after surgery but is expected to recover after being bitten Saturday on the upper torso. Marine Safety Capt. Larry Giles said there have been no reports of additional shark activity since the attack. It was not known what kind of shark was involved. About 4 miles of beach will stay closed until at least Monday morning. The boy was quickly pulled from the water by other divers and flown to a trauma center.

_2 Deadly explosion: A car exploded in Allentown, Pa., in what authoritie­s called a “criminal incident,” leaving three men dead and leading to a shelterin-place order for nearby residents. The blast occurred about 9:30 p.m. Saturday. The names of the three were not released. Federal officials are assisting local law enforcemen­t with the investigat­ion. “We know there’s been a criminal incident,” District Attorney James Martin said Sunday. “We have a high degree of confidence that the perpetrato­r was probably killed in the incident.”

_3 Executive killed: Three people have been charged in the fatal shooting of a civic leader and former airline executive in Memphis. McKinney Wright, 22, Quandarius Richardson, 18, and a 16-year-old were charged with firstdegre­e murder in perpetrati­on of a robbery in the shooting of Philip Trenary, police said. It was not immediatel­y known Sunday if they have lawyers. Trenary, 64, was the president of the Greater Memphis Chamber of Commerce. He was shot Thursday night not far from historic Beale Street. Trenary was also the former head of Pinnacle Airlines. Police have said Trenary was alone when he was approached and shot.

_4 Storm warnings: Hurricane Rosa was on a track Sunday to drench northweste­rn Mexico and parts of the U.S. Southwest, prompting tropical storm warnings for the Baja California coast and flash-flood watches for parts of four U.S. states. After weakening to a tropical storm and making landfall Monday, Rosa is expected to move quickly northwestw­ard. The National Weather Service issued flash flood watches through Tuesday for areas including southern Nevada, southeaste­rn California, southweste­rn and central Utah and the western twothirds of Arizona. Forecasts call for heavy rainfall in the watch areas.

_5 Police dog killed: A police dog in Jacksonvil­le, Fla., was fatally shot while chasing an armed carjacking suspect, authoritie­s said. The sheriff ’s office said the K-9 dog named Fang died Sunday. The suspect was apprehende­d by another K-9 dog at the scene. The suspect’s name was not immediatel­y released. Fang was a 3-year-old German shepherd that performed both patrol and bomb-detection duties. According to the sheriff ’s office, Fang patrolled special events and football games and “captured some of the most dangerous criminals” in Jacksonvil­le.
