Seven weeks later, Brandt

Snedeker still hears it everywhere he goes: “Great 59!” Is there really a bad 59? Snedeker joined an exclusive club Aug. 16, when he shot golf ’s magic number — yep, 59 — in the first round of the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C. He won the tournament by three strokes, his first PGA Tour victory in more than 2½ years.

Now, as he prepares for this week’s Safeway Open in Napa, Snedeker hopes he can resurrect those good vibes. He’s also enjoying the aftermath of becoming only the ninth player in tour history to post a sub-60 round.

“When you do it, you’re not really thinking about it — you’re just trying to win the tournament,” Snedeker said Wednesday. “But that’s one of those things in history that’s not going anywhere. You’re synonymous with that number now.”

Snedeker joined Jim Furyk, Al Geiberger, Chip Beck, David Duval, Paul Goydos, Stuart Appleby, Justin Thomas and Adam Hadwin in the 59 club. Furyk also shot a tour-record 58 in August 2016.

Ryder Cup fallout: Fred

Couples, who went 3-0 as Presidents Cup captain — including a 2009 victory at Harding Park — was disheartened to hear about the post-Ryder Cup squabbling among U.S. players, including

Patrick Reed’s complaints about not being paired with

Jordan Spieth.

“I wish they would just leave it alone,” Couples said. “We got smoked, give it a rest. You go down as a team. … Why did (Europe) win? They played better. They’re not better friends or attached more. They just flat beat us.”

Couples compared the U.S. loss to the Warriors falling to Cleveland in the 2016 NBA Finals, after Draymond

Green’s suspension for Game 5.

“They could have picked on him and said he cost them a championship,” Couples said. “But if you’re on the team, you say, ‘No, we could have covered him.’ We’re picking at each other (over the Ryder Cup), and that’s not right.”

Briefly: Phil Mickelson tees off at 12:30 p.m. Thursday . . ... Former A’s pitcher Mark Mulder starts at 1:20 p.m.
