Harriet J. Jones was born Harriet Jackson to Alice Glynn and Joseph Jones in Shreveport, Louisiana, on October 2, 1941. Raised by Alice and Ancil Johnson, whom she affectiona­tely called Poppy, Harriet’s early years were spent in Madera, CA. Harriet caught the attention of a San Francisco resident and a native Louisianan named Harold Jones. After courting her persistent­ly, the two were married and from this devoted union, they were blessed with one son, Marc Jones. After graduating from San Francisco State University, earning her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Education, Harriet embarked on a long career as an educator, teacher, author, principal, and district supervisor. Harriet retired from Westlake School in the Jefferson Elementary School District in Daly City. Harriet enjoyed doting on her son Marc. Proceeding her in death, her husband Harold and son Marc, Mother Alice (Ancil) Johnson, Father Joseph Jones and Sister Maxine Gates. But Harriet did not stop living or loving. She continued to care for others around her and remained a constant friend, surrogate sister and mother, and caretaker. Harriet enjoyed traveling, dining, painting, gardening and spending time with friends and family. Harriet is survived by 3 sisters Loretta (Leo) Brown, Sheree (Tony) Johnson Olgovie, and Jo Peggy Banks, 3 God children, Marquez Simmons, Nicole Williamson, and Robert Paul Reems, 4 nieces 7 nephews, 19 Great Nieces and nephew, and a host of Great-Great nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to join the family in celebratin­g Harriet’s life at a Memorial Service this Saturday, October 6, 2018 beginning at 11:00am at DUGGAN’S SERRA MORTUARY, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City CA.
