Elizabeth Hughes

Elizabeth “Betty” Hughes passed away peacefully on October 7th, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 96. Betty was born in San Francisco and graduated from Star of The Sea High School in 1940. She was preceded in death by her parents Elizabeth and Michael McDonnell, her sisters, Sister Geraldine McDonnell R.S.M., Patricia West, and her brother, William McDonnell. She was married to the love of her life, Henry “Scotty” for 62 years before he passed away in 2008. Her legacy lives on through her nine children; John (deceased, Kathy), Michael (Teri), Peter (deceased), Paul (deceased), Mary (Dennis), Stephen (Karen), Mark (Michele), Patrick (Dawn), and Jane (Charlie). She was a loving and proud grandmother to 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Betty’s greatest joy was being a mother. It was through her generous heart that she was able to devote this love to her family and share her gentle grace with so many others whose lives she touched.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11am, Monday, October 15th, at St. Dominic’s Church, 475 East I Street, Benicia, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Hospice East Bay. Arrangements are under the direction of Passalacqua Funeral Chapel, Benicia.
