The 49ers have allowed 1,750 passing yards this season, and cornerback Richard Sherman has surrendered just 28 of them.

That’s because opponents have targeted Sherman with just 10 of 237 passes, according to Pro Football Focus. Sherman has allowed two completions.

“Sure, I’d like the opportunity to get my hands on the ball and compete,” Sherman said. “But it’s part of playing a team sport.”

Opponents haven’t tested Sherman, who plays left cornerback, partly because of the four-time Pro Bowler’s pedigree. However, they also haven’t been forced to look Sherman’s way because of the 49ers’ struggles at right cornerback.

Ahkello Witherspoon and Jimmie Ward have started at right corner and Greg Mabin also has played the position.

“Guys are playing as hard as they can,” Sherman said. “The mistakes that have happened, have gotten corrected by the coaches in meetings. I’m sure that one of these days it’ll turn around. It’s football. Very few trends stay the course.” Sunday ceremony: The 49ers will unveil statues of Joe Montana and Dwight Clark, commemorating The Catch, in a ceremony Sunday morning inside Levi’s Stadium.

The statues are 23 yards apart, just as Montana and Clark were when Clark made the game-winning catch in the NFC Championship Game against the Cowboys in January 1982.

Montana, Clark’s wife, Kelly, and CEO Jed York are scheduled to speak at the ceremony, which is not open to the public. The statues can be viewed by ticket-holders when the gates open Sunday. Premium gates will open at 10:25 a.m. and general gates will open at 11:25 a.m. before the 1:25 p.m. game against the Rams.

In memory of Clark, who passed away of ALS on June 4, an “87” will be painted in the north end zone. Injury report: Wide receiver Dante Pettis (knee) did not practice Thursday after he was limited in Wednesday’s session. Pettis has missed the past two games after he was injured on Sept. 30 in a loss to the Chargers. Ward (hamstring) also did not practice.

Wide receiver Trent Taylor (back) was among 10 players who were limited. Taylor didn’t play in Monday night’s loss to the Packers.
