Lottery jackpot: Powerball officials say two tickets matched all six numbers in Saturday night’s drawing. The $688 million jackpot jackpot is the fourth largest in U.S. history. The winning numbers were 8, 12, 13, 19, 27 and Powerball 4. One ticket was sold in Redfield, Iowa, and the other in New York City. The drawing comes four days after someone won a $1.537 billion Mega Millions jackpot, the second-largest lottery prize. That ticket was sold in South Carolina.

Hurricane toll: Florida authorities have linked six more deaths to Hurricane Michael, raising the state’s death toll to 35. The storm’s overall death toll now stands at 45, with 10 deaths in other states. Florida Emergency Management Division spokesman Alberto Moscoso said two more deaths were confirmed in hard-hit coastal Bay County, raising the total there to 21. State emergency management officials tally storm-related deaths from rulings from district medical examiners. Michael slammed Florida’s Panhandle on Oct. 10, and also affected Georgia, the Carolinas and Virginia.

Border troops: The U.S. military already has begun delivering barriers to the southern border in conjunction with plans to deploy active duty troops, U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Sunday as a caravan of Central Americans slowly heads across Mexico toward the United States. Mattis said details of the deployment are still being worked out, including how many forces are needed. The additional troops will provide logistical and other support to the Border Patrol, and will bolster the efforts of the approximately 2,000 National Guard forces already there. Active duty troops are rarely deployed within the United States except for domestic emergencies like hurricanes or floods.

College library: The name of a former University of Vermont president is being removed from the school library in Burlington because of his support of research into the eugenics movement in the 1920s and 1930s that helped lead to sterilizations. The board of trustees voted unanimously Saturday to drop Guy Bailey’s name from the Bailey/Howe Library. An advisory panel recommended dropping the name because Bailey raised substantial private funding for the Eugenics Survey of Vermont and served on its advisory committee, including when it successfully pushed for passage of the sterilization law.

Emergency landing: The pilot of a small plane that made an emergency landing and flipped over in a dry riverbed in Ventura County says the Cessna’s engine died shortly after takeoff. Art Friedman and his passenger suffered lacerations Saturday near Santa Paula, but were otherwise fine. Friedman’s dog was on board too, and unhurt. Friedman said he considered bringing the plane down on State Route 126, but there was too much traffic. The 70year-old said the landing was relatively smooth until the front wheel hit a rock and the landing gear collapsed. The plane somersaulted and landed on its roof. Federal officials are investigating the incident.
