Giants bring back Bumgarner, Panda

-

In moves that were expected, the Giants on Monday exercised their 2019 contract options on pitcher Madison Bumgarner and infielder Pablo Sandoval.

Bumgarner will earn at least $12 million in the final year of the long-term deal he signed in 2012. That is the listed salary, but it likely has grown some through escalators based on performance milestones.

The Giants again will pay Sandoval the major-league minimum, around $545,000, in the final year of the five-year deal he signed with Boston after the 2014 season. The Red Sox will pay the rest of his $18.6 million salary.

Bumgarner and Sandoval will be free agents after the 2019 season, barring extensions.

In another formality, the Giants moved Sandoval, catcher Buster Posey and pitchers Jeff Samardzija, Johnny Cueto and Julian Fernandez from the 60-day disabled list, leaving the 40-man roster at 36.
