Ann O’Connor Hogland

-

June 14,1932 - Oct. 31, 2018

Ann passed away peacefully on October 31, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Alameda on June 14, 1932 to George and Ruth Heidt O’Connor, Ann was raised in Piedmont, CA and attended UC Berkeley, where she was swept off her feet after meeting the love of her life, Alander (Sandy) Hogland. They were married at Corpus Christi Church on May 5, 1956 and led a very happy life together for thirty-eight years until his passing on the eve of his seventy-third birthday. They settled in Piedmont where they raised three children.

Ann claimed she was “never president of anything” but was always a part of a committee or affiliation such as Kappa Kappa Gamma and The Junior League. Sandy kept her busy as well, traveling, and learning to play a wicked game of golf. They annually attended The Crosby Clambake in Pebble Beach with their close friends. Ann loved to play bridge and was involved with several bridge groups on a regular basis. She also played a mean game of dominoes.

When Ann recently learned of her terminal cancer diagnosis, she had Hospice of the East Bay come in to manage her symptoms. Her family is grateful to the hospice team for flying her first class to Heaven to be reunited with Sandy.

She is survived by her three children and their respective families: son Bill, his wife Terry and their children Kelly and Scott; Claire and her children Erik and Ann; son Jim; her brother Tom O’Connor and his wife Gadge and their children; and her many wonderful friends and cousins. Over the last several years, she enjoyed the companionship of Carter Wells and their mutual friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at Corpus Christi Church, 322 St. James Drive, Piedmont, CA. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of the East Bay, Catholic Charities or the charity of your choice.
