While parts of the Bay Area saw warm weather and red-flag fire conditions on Wednesday, San Francisco residents and visitors were ice skating after the opening of a second outdoor holiday rink, this one in Union Square.

Here’s what you need to know about skating in the city:

Tickets for the Union Square rink, which include skate rentals, are $18, $13 for children under 8. The rink is open daily from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. For more information about tickets and times for skating sessions, go to union-square icerink.com.

The outdoor rink will host a number of special events, including drag queens on ice and polar bear parties. Skating lessons for kids are also available. The iconic 83-foot-tall Christmas tree next to the rink will sparkle for the first time on Nov. 23 at the annual Macy’s tree-lighting celebration.

Skaters can also glide along at the Holiday Ice Rink in Embarcadero Plaza, which opened Monday.

General admission is $12 ($7 for children 7 and under), and skate rentals are $5. The rink is open Sunday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. For more information about tickets and times for skating sessions, go to embarcaderocenter.com/experience/holiday-ice-rink.

A third skating rink and holiday-themed park will open Nov. 30 in Civic Center. Tickets are available. For more information, visit winterparkicerinksf.com.
